Students celebrate a Kinder Garden

Kindergarten students at Battle Ground Elementary School are digging their lessons on plants and butterflies thanks to the creation of a garden area. The students transformed part of a playground area into an outdoor classroom.

The Public Schools Foundation of Tippecanoe County awarded the school a grant to purchase rock, soil, mulch, greenhouses, tools, and other supplies. The Battle Ground Garden Club donated plants and money to purchase other plants.

"These plants will allow us to attract butterflies so that they will lay their eggs," explains teacher Lisa Goodman. "We will be able to study the life cycle of the butterfly and have the plants to feed them as we watch them grow. Westfall Enterprise helped us with the physical labor when it came to the installation of the garden."

The students enjoyed taking part in the planting and watering all of the garden areas. As the garden matures, they will continue to help care for the garden by also pulling the weeds from the flower beds.
